Social media is a powerful tool. It’s 2021 and businesses have realized the impact social media can have, both good and bad. The question is, how can social media be best utilized for business?

When pondering on how to best utilize social media, it comes down to these key points: standing out, staying consistent, staying up to date with the trends, using a platform that fits your business best and engaging with your audience.

Standing Out

Having a unique voice is important. Creativity is something that can easily make you stand out from your competition on social media. Your services or products should be marketed in the most interesting, informative, and engaging way possible.

Staying Consistent

Consistency is key. Putting in effort on social media is a long game. Out of sight, out of mind, right? The opportunity to be in front of consumers has never been more prevalent than this day in age where mobile phones are glued to their owners. Fun fact: The average person spends a total of 6 hours and 55 minutes looking at a screen each day. To stay consistent, set a realistic goal for your business, whether that’s one post a day or two posts a week, the goal is to set a schedule and stick with it.

Being Trendy

Staying up to date with the trends is an incredible way to hit the target markets you may not always resonate with, but want to. Incorporating a trend into your social media content can open the door to consumers who have never seen your brand before, or target markets you haven’t been able to reach with previous content.

Platform Fit

Does your platform cater to the consumers you are targeting? Just because Facebook has the most users doesn’t mean it’s the best platform for your business. For example, the most effective platform for a B2B company would be LinkedIn. For consumer goods, initiatives in Youtube might generate the most ROI. Each social platform caters to a specific demographic, but with the right research and creative marketing strategy, you’ll be effective in tapping into your target audience.

Engagement

Have you ever seen Wendy’s -- yes, the fast food chain, not your cousin from Illinois --engage with their following on Twitter? This account is a great example of engagement on social media. Below is just one random example.

Being personal with your followers encourages them to connect with you more, and can also open up your brand to their audience who will see the back and forth. Putting effort into engaging with your customers can help them reach the decision making process faster. Statistics have proven this, so make sure you have it in your social strategy to stay connected with your prospective customers.

Now that you have the recipe for a killer social strategy, what are you going to do with it?
