Employee Spotlight: Rachael Schafer

Hi! I’m Madison, the Social Media Specialist here at Tier Level. If you didn’t know, many of our employees work remotely in different parts of the U.S. We have team members in Tulsa, Nashville, Texas, Kansas, and I’m in Arizona! Despite the distance, we try to connect with each other in different ways. For this blog post, I jumped on a zoom call with my coworker Rachael, one of our SEO Specialists, to get an idea of her day to day work life. Here’s what I learned about her!

What do some of your daily tasks consist of?

My whole day is writing and editing. Right now we are working on Target Cities content for the website. It's a lot of writing the same thing but in different ways. I use copy AI to get some ideas flowing if I'm stuck or struggling. I do a lot of research on each city to get some history and interesting information. Once I get a decent amount of information, I write the 250 word blurb about the town, do a quick scan to make sure there are no errors and submit. Depending on if it's approved or not, I might have to go back and do a few more edits to get it approved. I'm also in charge of Independent blogs now. I assign the blogs and edit all of them. I also write them as well. The editing takes anywhere from 10-45 minutes depending on whose I am editing. I also do meta-tagging almost everyday. I pull the photos from our shared drive and use Lightroom to meta-tag and do some light editing to the photos. Most of my day I am typing thousands of words. On average I'm probably writing at least 2,500 words a day, probably more.

How do you handle working from home?

I do the 30-10 method I guess you could call it. I try to work for 30 minutes then take a 10 minute break, but that doesn't always work out. I usually end up getting in the zone and work for two hours then take a 15 minute break. I have two dogs at home so most of my breaks consist of taking them out or playing with them and getting them more water. I do take walks some days during my break to get out of the house. I'll also do some light stretching during my break because of how long I sit. On days I'm feeling more antsy and need some human interaction, I will go to a coffee shop and write for a few hours. It is nice getting out of the house at least once a week to work.

What have you learned from working at Tier Level?

I did not know anything about restoration before working at Tier Level, so I have gained an extreme amount of knowledge on that. I feel like I can spot mold quite easily now. I have also learned a lot about Google surprisingly. I have learned a lot about organizing my work and managing my time as well. The workload can be intense sometimes, so I've learned how to best use my time and be the most productive.

What is your favorite part about working at Tier Level?

Probably how the team is willing to rally behind you and help you out when you're behind or overwhelmed. Whitney, Ashlie and Lindy are willing to drop everything and help you out if you need it, which is very comforting. And they don't shame you or make you feel guilty for asking for help! We also have some creative freedom which is nice. We aren't confined to a box and aren't told what to do step by step; we have some creative independence if you will. Being able to work wherever is also really nice!

It can sometimes feel lonely working from home, but I learned a few things from Rachael to apply to my day to day work life. It reminded me that even though many of us work apart, there are so many ways we can connect as coworkers and as friends!
